User Self Service: GroupWebService

Users can add themselves to a group.

As User-Self-Service a website is available to the authenticated users of your company, with which they can add themselves as members to an available group.

Usability Scenarios

  • Use of groups for controlling access permissions

Your company uses the Active Directory group model, in order to grant permissions to resources via the membership. For a part of the groups it is intended that the users can themselves decide about their belongingness.
Example: The access to a specific data directory is protected via a group permission. Basically, however, each person may access the directory.

  • Use of groups for controlling access to applications

Your company uses Active Directory groups, whose membership can be read by other applications.
Example: An anti-spam application reads the membership of a group, in order to define the users that need to be protected against spam.

Program functionalities

  • Use of an available IIS
You can install GroupWebService on any IIS in your company.

  • Individualization
The website available to the users can be customized to your requirements via parameters with respect to text output and internal control.

  • Security
Windows-authentication ensures that a user can add only himself to a group.

  • Group list
The list of the groups, to which a user can add himself, is given out by the IT-administration.

  • Just-In-Time
The group membership becomes effective immediately after the “self-entry” done by a user.

  • Administrative messaging
Optionally, a mail address can be configured, to which a message can be sent about the new entry (log-on/log-off).

  • Make use of the model recommended by Microsoft to control access to resources via groups.

  • Relieve your helpdesk or your IT-administrators in cases, where users are allowed to decide themselves about the access.

  • Make an appropriate website available to the users, with the help of which they can access the functionalities (via group membership).

  • Control the processes via administrative reports.
