GALsync

Synchronization of objects and their free/booked time among several Active Directories – replication of information between Exchange organizations. GALsync enables you to exchange the e-mail-activated objects of your Active Directory with other Exchange organizations. Users (e.g. in Microsoft® Outlook®) in the included mail organizations can make use of information about the users and the groups of the other Active Directory and also their calendar data (free/booked time).

Usage scenarios

  • Company-wide distributed Active Directory model
Your company has an internal and an external AD (e.g. for the sales). The mail objects of the external AD should be available in the internal one for the Outlook users via the global address list. Conversely, the sales person should also be able to see the mail addresses (and other information) in Outlook for the objects of the internal AD (or a subset thereof).

  • Company takeover
After a company is taken over, the various Active Directories and Exchange servers need to be integrated. Only one integration of the messaging environment is desired (without merging). All or subsets of all e-mail activated objects should be available in the other servers in Outlook.

  • Company & Partner
Your company has a partner company, with which active e-mail correspondence is done. All or subsets of all e-mail activated objects should be available in the other servers in Outlook.

  • Migration
Your company wants to migrate to a new Exchange server. You have to make sure that all the migrated users can send mails to the users in the “old” company and vice versa.

Program functionalities

  • Select (only) the objects that you need
Select all objects or subset of objects, which you want to export. Since GAL Sync is intended for Outlook-users/Exchange, only the e-mail activated AD-objects are taken into account, which are shown in the source in GAL. In addition, objects can be excluded by configuring a user-defined attribute as well as a string contained in it.

  • Several domains
Select objects from each domain of your AD for exporting. GALsync has “cross-domain”-capability.

  • Selection of data transmission protocols
GAL Sync enables you to transfer the data of the selected object with the help of an FTP-transfer, with the help of Windows Shared directories or through data transmission via SMTP.

  • Secure data transmission
The data is transmitted in an encrypted file between the different Active Directories – regardless of the data transmission protocol. In this way, no body can view the details of the object information on its way from the source to the destination. In order to be able to do the data export/import, both the sides must possess a key generated by the program.

  • Managed Code
GALsync has been programmed as “managed code” with .NET framework 2.0. It can be executed under 32- or 64-bit Windows platforms.

  • Protocol files
The protocol files help you to track exactly what happened. Warnings and error messages can also be configured and written in the event protocol of Windows. The administrator can also make the logging dependent on several protocol and degrees of severity.

Summary

  • Export information from your active directory structure by specifically selecting objects and their attributes.

  • Import information from another Active Directory and publish these in the global address list.

  • Transfer your data securely.

  • Configure the export and import times.

  • Reduce the time needed for the exchange of information through an automated synchronization.
